Hereās a secret nobody tells you before you buy a vacuum sealer: the best one depends less on the machine and more on you. Do you seal two chicken breasts on a Sunday, or half a deer in November? Do you want to seal soup? Do you have counter space, or a drawer?
So this is a recommendation, not a review. I havenāt tested these sealers. I read the full product listings, compared what each one is built for, and picked one for each kind of kitchen. If I needed a sealer tomorrow, this is the list Iād shop from.
Why this one (my everyday pick): the Nesco VS-12 Deluxe has three seal settings (Dry, Moist and Double) plus a Gentle vacuum for soft foods, a built-in bag cutter and roll storage, and it takes any brand of vacuum sealer bags up to 11.8ā wide. For most home kitchens, that is what I would want.
The downside: the listing gives a 1-year limited warranty. The FoodSaver below comes with 5 years.
What I based it on: the full product listings of all five sealers, checked on October 25, 2026. I havenāt tested any of them.

How I Picked These
I started with what people actually look for when they shop for a sealer: one for everyday use, a small one that needs no counter space, one that handles liquids and one for big batches. Then I chose one sealer for each kind of kitchen and read every full product listing for the things that decide daily use: which bags it takes, how wide they can be, settings for wet and soft food, weight and warranty. Where a listing doesnāt say something, the comparison below says so instead of guessing.

All of this comes from the product listings on October 25, 2026. āNot in the listingā means the listing doesnāt say. Listings change, so check the one youāre about to buy.
1. The Everyday Sealer: Nesco VS-12 Deluxe
Nesco VS-12 Deluxe Vacuum Sealer
Everyday Pick- Seal settings: Dry, Moist, Double
- Vacuum: Normal or Gentle
- Bags: any brand, up to 11.8ā wide
- Extras: bag cutter, roll storage, 2 starter rolls
- Power: 130 watts
Affiliate link: as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
Why itās here: the settings match real food. Double gives a stronger seal, and the listing says the Gentle vacuum is there āto keep softer foods safeā, so soft foods like bread, berries or marinated meats seal without being crushed. The cutter and roll storage mean you make bags to size instead of wasting half a bag on one burger.
Watch out for: the 1-year warranty, and the size: 15.75ā long, so give it a spot on the counter or a deep cupboard.
2. The Easy Starter: FoodSaver FM2100
FoodSaver FM2100 Vacuum Sealer
- Use: one-touch sealing, dry and moist food
- Seal: dual heat sealing strips
- Extras: roll storage, roll cutter, accessory port and hose
- In the box: 11ā x 10ā roll, three 1-quart and two 1-gallon bags
- Warranty: 5-year limited
Affiliate link: as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
Why itās here: one button, a roll cutter, starter bags in the box and the longest warranty on this list. It also has an accessory port and hose, and the listing says it works with the FoodSaver handheld sealer and other FoodSaver accessories (not in the box; the box has the hose). Itās the sealer Iād give someone who has never vacuum sealed anything.
Watch out for: fewer settings than the Nesco. The listing mentions no gentle mode, so for soft foods such as berries or bread, freeze them first (thatās the tray pack method from what you can vacuum seal).
One honest note: the listing says it can preserve food āup to 3 years in the freezerā. Thatās the maker talking. For food quality, I go by the USDA freezer times instead, and theyāre a lot shorter for most foods. Hereās how long vacuum-sealed meat really lasts.
3. The No-Counter-Space Option: Zwilling Fresh & Save Starter Set
Zwilling Fresh & Save Vacuum Starter Set (6 pieces)
- In the set: rechargeable vacuum sealer, 1 large glass container, 2 small and 2 medium bags
- Bags: reusable, easy-zip, freezer safe, dishwasher safe
- Container: borosilicate glass base, plastic lid
- Microwave: bags yes, but without the vacuum seal
Affiliate link: as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
Why itās here: it needs no counter space. Instead of melting a bag shut, the small rechargeable pump pulls the air out of Zwillingās own zip bags and glass container. The bags are reusable, so itās a nice fit for leftovers, cheese, cut fruit and the weekly meal prep.
Watch out for: this is a different system from the other four. It works with its own bags and containers, not with rolls you cut to size, so itās not the tool for sealing 20 pounds of ground beef. Think āsmall portions, oftenā, not ābulk freezer dayā.
4. The Soup Sealer: Avid Armor USV20 Chamber Vacuum Sealer
Avid Armor USV20 Ultra Series Chamber Vacuum Sealer
- Type: chamber, for liquid-rich food
- Chamber: 4 L stainless steel, 12.25ā x 8.5ā x 3ā
- Seal bar: 11.5ā, user-replaceable
- Control: vacuum time 15 to 60 seconds, adjustable seal
- Pouches: smooth pouches up to 11ā x 10ā
Affiliate link: as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
Why itās here: a regular sealer sucks the air out of the bag, and anything wet comes along with it. A chamber sealer puts the whole bag inside a box and lowers the pressure all around it, so the listing says soups, stews, marinades and meat juices stay in the bag. If you want to freeze chili in flat portions, this is the type to look at.
Watch out for: itās heavy (about 17 pounds) and takes up real counter space at 14ā wide and 8.25ā high. The listing gives smooth pouches up to 11ā x 10ā, and the bag has to fit inside the chamber, so a long rack of ribs wonāt fit.
5. The Heavy-Duty One: Weston Pro-2300
Weston Pro-2300 Vacuum Sealer (model 65-0220-W)
- Power: 1020 watts, double-piston pump, up to 28ā HG (inches of mercury, a measure of vacuum strength)
- Built for: fan-cooled motor for continuous, repetitive use
- Seal: 5 mm seal bar, bags up to 15ā across
- Modes: one-touch, plus manual for delicate foods
- Size: 19.88ā x 13.27ā x 6.1ā, 22.6 lb
Affiliate link: as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you.
Why itās here: the listing says it has a fan-cooled motor made āfor continuous, repetitive useā, so itās built for sealing bag after bag, and its 15ā bags leave room for bigger cuts. For hunting season or a bulk buy at the warehouse store, thatās the feature that matters.
Watch out for: it weighs 22.6 pounds and is almost 20ā long. For two bags a week, itās like buying a pickup truck to go get milk.
Suction, Chamber or Pump?
Every sealer above does the same job, removing air, in one of three ways:
- Countertop suction sealers (Nesco, FoodSaver, Weston): they pull the air out of the bag and melt it shut. Textured bags or rolls, great for meat, cheese and dry food; wet food is harder.
- Chamber sealers (Avid Armor): the whole bag goes inside a closed box, so liquid isnāt sucked toward a pump. Smooth pouches that fit the chamber. Hereās how a chamber vacuum sealer works.
- Rechargeable pumps (Zwilling): small and quick, but only with the brandās own bags and containers.
Which bags go with which machine: vacuum sealer bags and rolls.
What No Vacuum Sealer Can Do
A sealer keeps air away from food, which slows freezer burn and drying out. It doesnāt make food safe to keep anywhere you like: Montana State University Extension says vacuum sealing āis NOT a food preservation method by itself.ā Meat, fish, vegetables and leftovers still go in the fridge at 40°F or below or the freezer at 0°F. Dry foods such as nuts, grains and dried fruit are the ones that can stay sealed in the pantry. The full list, and why botulism is the reason, is on what you can vacuum seal.
What to Check Before You Buy
- What youāll seal most. Soups, stews and very wet food point to a chamber sealer. Meat, cheese and dry food work well in a suction sealer; for soft or moist food, look for a gentle or moist setting, or freeze it first.
- How much at once. A few bags a week: any of the countertop models. A whole deer: a fan-cooled heavy-duty one.
- Bag width. Up to 11.8ā on the Nesco, pouches up to 11ā on the Avid Armor and up to 15ā on the Weston. The FoodSaver comes with an 11ā roll.
- Which bags it takes. The Nesco listing says any brand; the Zwilling only works with its own bags and containers.
- Where it will live. Measure your counter or cupboard. The Avid Armor weighs about 17 pounds and the Weston 22.6.
- Warranty. The Nesco listing gives 1 year and the FoodSaver 5 years. For the other three, the listings donāt say. Warranty terms can depend on the model, the country and the seller, so check them before you buy.
And whatever you buy, get a pack of freezer labels with it. In three months, every frozen bag looks the same.
Quick Questions
What is the best vacuum sealer for food?
It depends on what you seal. For everyday meat, cheese and leftovers, a countertop sealer with a Moist setting and a gentle mode, like the Nesco VS-12, covers most kitchens. For soups and stews, a chamber sealer. For bulk sealing, a fan-cooled heavy-duty model.
Can you vacuum seal liquids?
In a chamber sealer, yes: the pressure drops around the whole bag, so thereās no suction pulling the liquid out. With a regular suction sealer, my tip: freeze soups and sauces first (in a container or a flat bag), then seal the frozen block.
Is a chamber vacuum sealer better than a regular one?
Better for liquids, not for everything: the bag has to fit the chamber, while a suction sealer cuts long bags from a roll. More in how a chamber vacuum sealer works.
Which of these sealers work for sous vide?
Four of the five listings mention sous vide: the FoodSaver, the Zwilling set, the Avid Armor and the Weston. Whatever sealer you use, check that the bags themselves say they are made for sous vide cooking.
Is a vacuum sealer worth it?
If you freeze a lot, yes; if you rarely freeze anything, airtight containers may be enough. The full yes, no and maybe is in is a vacuum sealer worth it.
Has Marleen tested these vacuum sealers?
No. This is a recommendation, not a review: these are the sealers she would choose for each kind of kitchen, based on the full product listings.
